Captain’s Log: Stardate 95335.82

It’s time for another life update!

I’ve been incredibly busy since my last life update (its been a little less than two weeks), but here are some things I’ve been doing.

General Life Update:

I have recently come to the conclusion that I am happy again. The realization came to me at 2:30 in the morning on Saturday (I suppose it was actually Sunday by that time) when I was sitting on a swing in the middle of a park that a group of us had walked to. One minute I was minding my own business and swinging back and forth, and the next thing I knew, I was watching all the people who walked all the way out there with me and realizing that everything felt so right. I had to take a minute to come to terms with the fact that I am very, very content. Also at some point during that night there was a group hug involved, which was real cute.

Now, I may be stressed and tired most of the time because of responsibilities, but I’m genuinely happy at school again. For a while I wasn’t doing so hot, but I’ve met some incredible people not to long ago who are changing my life for the better.

Moving on, Kara and I started our Dungeons and Dragons game last night. We began in our big group of ten people (it’s a lot, I know!) but we’ll be splitting up into two groups of five for our next session. This is my first time being a DM/GM, but me and Kara are working on this story together and we’re having an incredibly time building the world.

Of course since I’m at school I’ve been doing a ton of work. I’ve managed to find time to do all of it and I’m still getting enough sleep to function (although I would like more). I’m also making sure I make time to socialize. Last night we brought out Robin’s white sheet and movie projector and we all sat around in the Robertshaw lobby and watched Sky High (a classic) and Moana. It was great.

What have I been listening to?

The Wonder Years just put out an EP called Burst and Decay, which consists of acoustic versions of songs from past albums. They’re one of my favorite bands, so of course I’m obsessively listening to this. My favorite songs on the EP are Cardinals and You in January.

I’ve been in a weird Elvis Costello kick lately, so every day I listen to songs from The Best of Elvis Costello: The First 10 Years. My favorite songs on the album are Watching the Detectives (my dad introduced me to this song years ago, which is how I found out about Costello) and Almost Blue.

Quick Listen:

What have I been watching? What have I seen?

First of all, I saw Kingsman: The Golden Circle the other day. Let’s just say that I simultaneously loved it and hated it. Spoiler alert (although if you saw trailers, you’d know): I’m so happy that Harry’s back and not actually dead. He’s one of my favorite characters. His returning story line made me cry though. There were a bunch of other things I loved as well, but a few things I hated. There were multiple character deaths that made me angry, and I’ll leave it at that. I might make another blog post about it soon because the first one is one of my absolute favorite movies.

I haven’t been watching any TV, but like I said before, last night we watched Sky High and Moana on Netflix. I’ve seen both before but they were both enjoyable.

What have I been reading?

I’ve been really busy these last few weeks, so I’m still reading The Young Elites by Marie Lu. I also haven’t even looked at A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab yet. I did buy The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo on Saturday and I started that one. It’s a bunch of folk tales from her Grishaverse and I’m excited to read more of it once I’ve got time.

These past two weeks have been busy and I hope I’ll have more time to read soon. Either way, I’m happy.
